Frequently Asked Questions

How long does treatment typically last?

The duration of treatment differs person to person, but this therapy is typically not intended to be very long-term.

The course of treatment can last anywhere from between 3 months and one year.

What is the cost of treatment?

Here at the Center we offer a sliding-scale based on the experience level of the therapist, please call us to find out the exact details of fees.

Do you take insurance?

We do not take insurance and operate "out of network." This means that you will have to pay for your session upfront and file for reimbursement with your insurance company afterwards. We are more than happy to help you with the filing portion.

Do I have OCD?

While our administrators cannot diagnose you over the phone, we encourage that you read Dr. Phillipson's articles about OCD and call to set up an appointment to get an official diagnosis.

What is OCD?

"Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder, first and foremost. It is not a thought disorder. Although the thoughts associated with OCD are bizarre, they are not at all the focal point of the therapeutic objective. The essential features of OCD are recurrent obsessions (thoughts) that create an awareness of alarm or threat.Persons typically engage in some avoidance or escape response in reaction to the obsessive threat (I typically refer to the obsessive threat as a "spike."). Obsessions take the form of either a perceived threat of physical harm to oneself or others or, in some cases, more of a metaphysical or spiritual threat to oneself, others, or perhaps a deity. I conceptualize the overall syndrome of OCD to consist of three primary branches. Within all three branches, in approximately 80% of all cases, persons performing these rituals are painfully aware that their behavior is unreasonable and irrational. However this insight provides no relief. Therefore attempting to help sufferers through reassurance has no long lasting positive effect." (Phillipson, "What is OCD?")

Please read Dr. Phillipson's article, "What is OCD?" to get a complete understanding of what Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is and how we treat it here.

What is CBT?

CBT, short for "Cognitive Behavioral Therapy," a method of psychotherapy that addresses maladaptive behaviors, emotional dysfunctions, and cognitive processes through goal-oriented systematic steps. Please read Dr. Phillipson's article about CBT and the treatment of OCD to get a complete idea of how treatment works.

What is the privacy policy of the Center?

We follow strict rules of (see: HIPAA privacy rules) confidentiality here at the Center and are very serious about the privacy of our clients. It is of utmost importance to us that you feel safe and trusted while at the Center.

What is the intake process like?

Our intake process is very simple at the Center. Once we set you up for your first appointment, the therapist that you see for your first appointment will be the therapist you will see ongoing. Keep in mind that the intake process (getting to know you, finding out what is troubling you, working toward treatment goals) will usually take between 2-3 sessions.
